Patterns Genesis V 0.01a Substance PropertiesEdit

This is a list of substances in patterns and their physical properties n.l. Weight, Compressive strength and shear strength.

Compressive strength refers to the ability of a cube to withstand pressure directly from above.

Shear strength refers to the ability to withstand moments acting on the side of a cube.

These value were calculated by testing each of the substances in cube form against other substances in cube form.

The values are presented in two formats: Precise and Rounded. The Rounded values are not as accurate as the Presice values, but are easier to work with on the fly.

Properties of Materials
Substance

Weight

Rounded / Precise

Strength

Rounded / Precise

Shear

Rounded / Precise

Jasper 10 / 9.1 300 / 273 90 / 81.9
Coralwood 10 / 9.1 300 / 273 100 / 91
Starene 10 / 9.1 280 / 254.8 90 / 81.8
Bonestone 9.2 / 8.4 250 / 227.5 80 / 72.8
Gypsum 8 / 7.28 240 / 218.4 80 / 72.8
Limewood 9.2 / 8.4 210 / 191.1 80 / 72.8
Clay 8.5 / 7.8 120 / 109.2 50 / 45.1
Nak 9.2 / 8.4 110 / 100.1 50 / 45.1

Usage:

A block with Strength = 300 will break when carying a load of 30 cubes with a Weight of 10

A block with Shear Strength = 100 can will break when 10 cubes with a Weight of 10 are placed horizontally attached to it.

This way you can calculate how far you can build before your building or bridge collapes and what materials you should use
